Choosing the right computer

Previously I revealed the secret how to detect fake or real Luwak Coffee, and now I going to explain how to choose a computer that fit your needs.

1.       First thing first before you look for any computer you need to think how much is your budget that you willing to spend?! Do not over your budget!!

2.       Think what kind of computer do you need? If you are often on business trip / travelling or move your resident then you needs to think getting a laptop instead of desktop. But if you are more likely using it as home computer or office computer then get a desktop. Reason: a) because desktop is much cheaper comparing to laptop. eg, By spending 300-400 USD you could get a desktop which having same specification of 800-1000 USD laptop. b) because desktop is more durable and easier to fix than laptop. eg, If your desktop monitor having some dead dots or it’s totally dead you could easily replace it with the new one without even thinking to fix it because most of the time the repair cost is not worth the money. But with laptop, when the laptop’s monitor has problem, you got 2 solution either repair/replace the monitor or buying a new laptop. Due to the price of laptop’s monitor is really expensive most of the people replace it with normal desktop monitor. By replacing to normal monitor then you’re losing a very big asset of laptop feature which is the convenient to travel with your laptop because it turns into a desktop because of the monitor.

3.       When you decided which type of computer you going to buy, then start to make a checklist what kind of things do u want to do on the computer. eg, graphic design, gaming, writing paper, do your assignment, etc.

4.       After you done with the checklist, start from the most priority things on the list. Example: my lists are watch movies, write articles, read emails, chatting, and gaming. Then I’m going to search on internet what kind of graphic card and sound card do I need to make me feel good while watching my movies. If you think the movies you going to watch are not necessary to have a very good graphic card and sound card then don’t buy any of them yet because the motherboard itself already have a basic built-in graphic card and sound card. Go to the next item on the list, writing, reading and chatting doesn’t really need any additional hardware to do it. Next is gaming which need better graphic, sound effect and ram then search on internet which type graphic card required to play your game, because nowadays there are certain graphic requirement to play them. Otherwise the display on monitor for that game is going to be terrible or it might black out.

5.       So far we only discuss about graphic card, sound card and ram. Now we go into processor which is the most important hardware in the computer. For processor normally we saw about few Gb speed. The speed their talking about is the clock speed which is determine how fast they process the data. And number of the core is means how many cpu process the data. Eg, dual core 2.5 Gb means when they process a data X, they will split data X into 2 then process each of the part with 2.5 Gb clock speed. So total about 2.5 Gb times 2 = 5 Gb. Let’s say quad core 1.7 Gb means the data split into 4 parts and with the speed 1.7 Gb. Total about 1.7 Gb times 4 = 6.8 Gb. A lot people misunderstood concept about the speed, they only compare the speed but not total speed. For current situation only those graphic design software especially the rendering part and some game have the capability to use quad core processor. So I personally recommend people to buy dual core for now till most of the software is able to process using quad core. It’s also because of the price different between dual core and quad core is huge so I don’t think such a huge different price worth to buy.

6.       After all the specification of computer, we are going to the brand. For hardware inside the computer, the most important thing are to check what the brand is and where it is made from. For building a desktop computer, we able to choose by ourselves. But for laptop we can’t do it ourselves because the component inside the laptop is smaller than much complicated compare to desktop. For laptop brand, I recommend to buy Toshiba / HP / Lenovo. Those brands have much better build of laptop compare with other brand but make sure you order them from official website not buying from retailer. Because some retailers intentionally change the hardware inside to lower quality and causes the laptop broke down easily.

That’s it for now. I’ll update if there is any new product out there with a nice specification and reasonable price.
